Role overview

We are currently recruiting for a Distributed Energy Resource Analyst to support Ausgrid’s planning, DER and customer demand forecasting, and design and delivery of projects to deliver new and innovative flexibility service solutions to better manage the grid.

As the DER Analyst, you will be part of a team responsible for driving innovation and learning at Ausgrid as we navigate the clean energy transition. Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Driving development and delivery of customer research and innovation trials to address knowledge gaps relating to emerging technologies;
  • Delivering expert analysis outcomes to support trials, programs and other research activities
  • Assisting with development and delivery of industry leading customer insights to inform Ausgrid’s forecasts, strategies and plans.

What we are looking for

We need someone who can hit the ground running! The ideal candidate will hold degree level qualifications in Engineering or related technical discipline, coupled with a strong understanding of customer behaviours and preferences related to energy use, distributed energy resources and existing and emerging technologies.

You bring with you proven analytical skills, experience in understanding new technologies, a drive to innovate and a high level of adaptability to change.


To be successful, you will have

  • Degree level professional qualification in engineering or relevant discipline
  • Experience supporting or leading the scoping and delivery of research and innovation projects or trials in a collaborative environment
  • Proven analytical skills with the ability to identify and critically analyse technical and financial aspects of energy use and technology performance
  • Experience using data analysis tools such as Python, R, MATLAB, SAS, advanced Excel, Databricks or similar for consumer energy data modelling or forecasting
  • Strong understanding of the technical and commercial aspects of customer energy use, emerging technologies, distributed energy resources and related fields
  • Good stakeholder management experience to support engagement with different stakeholder groups within Ausgrid and externally
  • Good technical knowledge of demand management, electricity networks, electricity network planning and related fields
  • Demonstrated experience in achieving outcomes in a collaborative environment focused on problem solving and business improvement
  • Superior written communication skills with proven experience with reports, memo’s, board papers, and presentations
  • Highly evident oral communication skills with ability to explain complex and technical concepts tailored to the intended audience
